Alarm Placement

There is no one answer to suggested placement of home CO alarms/monitors.

Read the manufactures' suggestions which generally recommend that they be placed near the sleeping quarters.  The reasoning for this is that there is a better chance you would hear an alarm if it went off in the middle of the night.

Also keep in mind that (even though CO alarms are not approved as a smoke detector), the low level alarms/monitors may also sound in response to the carbon monoxide produced when a home fire occurs.  This may give you and your family additional precious time to evacuate the home.

Generally they recommend against installing alarms/monitors near a gas oven or near a gas/oil fired furnace/boiler or Hot Water Tank.  However, some would argue that if an alarm in the vicinity of these appliances is regularly sounding, there is cause for concern.
