ECA 450

Downloading Data to a Personal Computer

ATTENTION:  PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ARE ABRIVIEATED INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE REFER TO THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL SECTION 2.11 FOR A PDF COPY OF THE MANUAL PLEASE CLICK ON THE FOLLOWING LINK

http://www.bacharach-inc.com/PDF/Instructions/24-9400.pdf

Step 1

Connect the serial cable (P/N 104-4027 this is a straight through DB9 Male toDB9 Female cable) to the ECA 450’s RS232 port. Connect the other end of the cable to the Com Port on your PC.

Step 2

Start HYPERTERMINAL (if HyperTerminal is not currently installed, install it from your windows cd-rom) by clicking on START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, COMMUNICATIONS, HYPERTERMINAL.

Step 3

DOUBLE Click on the HYPERTERM icon.

           Step 4

Enter a name and choose an icon for the connection

Click on OK

The CONNECT TO box should appear

Use the pull down menu in the CONNECT USING space and select the COM port that you hooked the serial cable to (I have chosen Com 1 for this demonstration).

Then click OK

STEP 5

When you click OK the COM PROPERTIES box will be displayed

Using the pull down menus set the COM PORT PROPERTIES as follows:

 Bits per second: 19200

Data bitts: 8

Parity: None

Stop bits: 1

Flow control: None

Then click OK to display HyperTerminal’s main window.

Step 6

Please pay close attention at this point this is where it might get confusing.

In the main window of hyperterminal click on FILE then click SAVE.

This creates a file with an .ht extension in the hyperterminal folder.

The file uses the name that was entered for the connection in step 4.

ECA 450 DOWNLOADS.ht   The .ht stands for hyperterminal

Step 7

In the main window of hyperterminal click TRANSFER then click CAPTURE TEXT

After clicking CAPTURE TEXT the capture text window will appear you must decide where to save your data.

You will notice that file extension in the window is .TXT

If you want to save your data so that it will open in an EXCEL spread sheet you must change the file extension to .CSV

After changing the file extension to .CSV click start.

Hyperterminal is now waiting for the information to be transferred from the ECA 450.

To transfer information from the ECA 450 press the MEMORY key on the instruments keypad and use the up and down arrow keys to select TRANSMIT MEMORY.

At this point you have 3 choices

You can choose LAST this will transmit the LAST test saved in the instruments memory bank

You can choose RANGE this allows you to select a RANGE of tests stored in the instruments memory bank for example you could transmit memory locations 1-10 or 25 –75 any RANGE of test data can be selected.

You can also select to transmit ALL the test data stored in the instruments memory bank.

Pressing enter begins the transfer process and you will observe the changes in the hyperterminal main window.

When the data is finished transferring click on TRANSFER then CAPTURE TEXT then STOP.

IT IS NOW OK TO CLOSE HYPERTERMINAL.

IF YOU FOLLOWED THE PROCEDURE CORRECTLY YOUR FILE HAS BEEN SAVED TO THE HYPERTERMINAL FOLDER LOCATED ON YOUR HARD DRIVE.

I WOULD RECOMMEND CREATING A SHORT CUT FROM THE HYPERTERMINAL FOLDER TO YOUR DESKTOP.
